The resolution was led by Sen. Mazie Hirono in the U.S. Senate and Rep. Jill Tokuda in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Congressman Ed Case introduced a bill to end what he called “unfair shipping practices” to the non-contiguous parts of the US, saying Hawaiʻi customers are facing inflated costs.

Ed Case said the American Seabed Protection Act will place a moratorium on deep-sea mining activities in American waters or by American companies on the high seas.
