Earlier this afternoon. Blankets of rain coming down. All that rain not going totter much for all the heat weve been experiencing. Good evening im iain page. Im dawn timmeney. Lucy is is off. Its a hot one out there. Well still hit 90 after that rain. Thats what it looks like. Its official our third heat wave of the year. 93 on tuesday. 93 for the high yesterday and we made it to 90 today before those storms. The rain has moved out. The humidity will be dropping tomorrow, but as we go hour by hour look at the temperatures 85 degrees by 11 00. Were looking at 88 at 1 00 p. M. And a High Temperature tomorrow of 91 so that third heat wave will likely be extended into tomorrow. The culprit with the showers and thunderstorms that cold front were not dropping the temperatures but we saw a line of heavy showers and thunderstorms move through the area in particular the heaviest rain right along the immediate i95 corridor. We saw an average between about 1 00 to 2inches of rainfall south philad
Were looking at 88 at 1 00 p. M. And a High Temperature tomorrow of 91 so that third heat wave will likely be extended into tomorrow. The culprit with the showers and thunderstorms, that cold front. Were not dropping the temperatures but we saw a line of heavy showers and thunderstorms move through the area. In particular the heaviest rain right along the immediate i95 corridor. We saw an average between about 1 to 2inches of rainfall south philadelphia also moving toward the cherry hill area as well as the west deptford region. And then as you move into extreme south jersey and central southern sections of delaware you pretty much missed out on the rain that we saw across the area today as that system kind of ran out of gas. So as we go hour by hour overnight tonight, clearing skies, dropping humidity, a lot of sunshine for your friday across the area but once again it remains hot. Coming up, your entire weekend forecast, the pocono mountains as well as down the shore with the seven d
Move close to the substation. The officer of Emergency Management is monitoring the situation and urging drivers to avoid the area, as the substation continues to burn. Lets go to the chopper for the gridlock in philadelphia as well. As i said just bumper to bumper vehicles here. All the traffic lights in a large area are out and 20,000 people still without power. Firefighters have not moved toward the substation, they are not pouring water on that, but trying to deenergize the substation. People are worried. We spoke to one woman. We understand there is a safety issue but nobody is answering any of our questions, give us an idea. Will our services be rerouted. We have groceries and children and i have a sick husband at home. What is going on . Nobody wants to answer any questions. Looking back live in north philadelphia. That is the end of the fox street as this fire continues to burn, they are working to deenergize the area, the peco crews are, so firefighters can start to extinguish
Afternoon. And firefighters tried to put a flame retardant chemical on the flames but with the wires energized it just reunited. Huge plumes of spoke blanketed north philadelphia and some were evacuated. The fire commissioner explained why the fire burned so long. Before they could douse it with water. We are going to end up putting the fire out the old fashion way without water but we have to make sure the power is shut off. So we have unmanned water streams and putting up a water pipe with the aerial ladders and when we have confirmation that the power is off from peco we can start to put out the fire. That happened shortly after 5 00. Hazmat teams were called and 75 firefighters on the scene and the commissioner was asked if the smoke was toxic and he told reporters it was something to be concerned about and get out of its path but less toxic due to the change in construction of the power grids, you see the flames that were burning, we spoke with one neighbor saying what others were
All throughout hunting park area and tie ups along the hunting park and allegheny intersection right there. Hazmat crews were called in to the scene to deal with all of this. Now its important to note we do not have any reports of injuries at this time but crews continue to work on this while peco is trying to reroute some of the power thats out there trying to reroute power to get it to people who still need it at this point but as we come back to the ground level here, we can tell that you this is still very active scene with police trying to keep everybody far from this and deal with Traffic Congestion as well. A very busy and hectic scene still since this started around 1 50 this afternoon. Back to you. All right, dave, thank you. Now on to developing story in delaware. A community is concerned after a woman is grabbed at gun point outside her apartment, police say its the same guy who has struck twice before. The attacks happening just miles apart from each other ton night investi
