Timothy Denevi Wanders the Backwaters of the New Conservatism
February 27, 2021
It’s Friday morning, the kickoff to the 2021 Conservative Political Action Conference, and one thing is clear from the start: the Orlando resort hosting this year’s event is teeming.
Conference-goers crowd the Hyatt Regency’s air-conditioned hallways. In the lobby, recent arrivals wait impatiently with their bags. The line I’m moving through is progressing swiftly into the ballrooms and hallways where the conference is being held. (The venue was changed at the last minute from its usual locale, at the National Harbor, to take advantage of Florida’s lax pandemic protections.)
thrust into the spotlight with snl playing trump and my brother steven has injected himself into this. he had it coming because he showed up at the debate and chose to hit media row. he was interviewed and asked questions. and they asked him directly about snl and it was taken out of context a little because they said, do you think your brother is funny? he said i don t think anything is funny about the election, the issues are too important and too much at stake. he didn t say snl and my brother alec wasn t funny, but that s the way it was spun. if you hit media row and answer the questions, you are setting yourself up. you have to have a thicker skin. he s been on here and i will tell him that. do you think your brother is capturing the tone of the debates? he s just regurgitating with a little bit of a sense of humor. he said it in the skit, in that skit that night. he goes, i m just media has been unfair to me because they re taking the things i say and taking the thing
think? let s take a poll right now. who is the best baldwin brother? it s billy. i mean, i think it s aleck when it what he does is pretty funny on saturday night live. you have to give it to him. absolutely. it s strange. i ve been doing some commentary sin t since the convention with your show and other outlets. my brother was thrust into the spotlight with playing trump, and then he showed audiotape at the debate and hit media row. they asked him directly about snl. it was taken out of context. they said do you think your brother is funny. he said i don t think anything is funny about this election, and i think there s too much at stake. he didn t really say snl wasn t funny, but that s the way it was spun. if you re going to hit media row and answer those questions about snl, you re setting yourself up. you have to have thicker skin. i hope he comes on here.
