Roads around the prison estates. THE Isle of Wight Council has been branded stupid for accepting the Ministry of Justice s £6.3 million offer to take over the prison estates. In a deal accepted last month, but figures only revealed recently, the Isle of Wight Council will take over the upkeep of the infrastructure of the Albany, Parkhurst and Camp Hill prison estates. For the one-off payment, however, the council will be undertaking work to fix roads, pavements and street lighting, among other issues, that have been neglected , residents say, by the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) since the 1970s. Former Medina Borough councillor for Parkhurst for over 20 years, Jeff Manners said the MOJ was using this an opportunity to offload a huge liability and that the Isle of Wight Council would be absolutely stupid to fall for this trick .
