The Medway Housing Authority has been awarded a $239,250 Resident Opportunity and Self-Sufficiency grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to fund service coordinators, according to a Tuesday HUD announcement.
Medway was the only Central Massachusetts housing agency to receive the funds, part of $1.8 million in ROSS grants distributed statewide, and $36.9 million doled out across the country.
The funds will be used to hire and retain service coordinators tasked with helping public housing families meet their professional, financial, health and educational goals, per HUD. Coordinators work with seniors and people with disabilities to ensure they get the medical care and social support required to help them stay and age in place.
Housing authorities in Central Massachusetts brought in more than $9 million in federal funding announced Tuesday for public housing improvements.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development funding totaled $92 million to Massachusetts housing authorities, which oversee thousands of subsidized living units across the state. Among the biggest recipients was the Worcester Housing Authority, which took in nearly $6.6 million.
The funding will benefit capital investments in public housing units, according to HUD. The work can range from smaller improvements such as water conservation measures or heating system upgrades to big-scale improvement such as roof replacements.
In all, 13 housing authorities in Central Massachusetts received funding:
