Microsoft Nabs Nuance for $19 7B to Bolster Cloud for Healthcare | Science

Apr 13, 2021 3:00 AM PT Microsoft on Monday announced it is purchasing Nuance Communications, a natural language to computer processing company, in a deal valued at $19.7 billion. In the all-cash transaction, Microsoft will acquire all of Nuance s outstanding stock for US$56 a share, a 23 percent premium over the share price at the close of the market last Friday. The deal, which is Microsoft s largest since it acquired LinkedIn in 2016 for more than $26 billion, is expected to close at the end of the calendar year. Mark Benjamin will remain CEO of Nuance and report to Scott Guthrie, executive vice president of cloud and artificial intelligence at Microsoft, the Redmond, Wash. company said in a statement.

The scheme called FLoC Federated Learning of Cohorts is being tested in Chrome, in some cases without the knowledge of the browser s users. The research by Bango, which surveyed more than 200 CEOs, maintains that poor digital marketing practices and meaningless metrics are putting the board to sleep. More than half the chief executives (59 percent) say that social media channels aren t generating sales for their businesses. Nobody s saying that social media can t add value, Bango CMO and co-author of the report Anil Malhotra said in a statement. The information is from a data breach that occurred in 2019, but hasn t been widely available until now. The data was posted to an English-speaking cybercriminal forum called RaidForums by a hacker going by the handle TomLiner. The Facebook data was first listed for sale on RaidForums on June 6, 2020, but the initial sale allegedly asked users for US$30,000 in exchange for the data, explained Ivan Righi, a cyber threat intelligence analyst with Digital Shadows, a San Francisco-based provider of digital risk protection solutions.
