Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small said a boardwalk store clerk charged with falsely claiming “young African American children” robbed his store did so as part of an ongoing issue involving merchants complaining about crime and calling for more policing of the boardwalk.
The clerk, Malik Awais, 26, of Egg Harbor Township, is facing charges of making a false report to police. He allegedly claimed individuals stole $100 in merchandise from H&A Fashions and caused over $5,000 worth of property damage something contradicted by surveillance footage, Deputy Chief James A. Sarkos said at a press conference the mayor held Wednesday.
