The Fairfield City Council will hold their regular meeting on Tuesday, October 11 at 6:00pm at city hall, with a public hearing to take place prior to the meeting at 5:50pm. The public hearing is in regard to rezoning property at 1010 West Court & 110 NW 11th streets and bid opening for sale of city owned property. In routine business the council will discuss an ordinance for the sale of city owned property, for the auxiliary police building, and ordinance to rezone property from an R-2 to a B-3 Zone, ordinance for a TIF Agreement with B-Way Design & Decorating LLC, and an ordinance on risk management insurance. Other items on the agenda include a street closing request for the Christmas Parade to be held on December 3rd at 5:00pm, a request to use recreation funds for the Christmas Parade, and discussion/approval concerning a request for water line extension. Fairfield Water Dept employees will continue flushing hydrants throughout the city today and tomorrow. This is done each spring and fall to test the hydrants and help keep your water supply clean and pure. The City of Fairfield is required by ILL EPA to inform residents of the possible lead content in the water supply during hydrant flushing. While flushing the hydrants, you may notice that your water may be temporarily discolored. While flushing occurs, you may also experience a dip in water pressure, and it might affect the lead plumbing in and outside your home, if your home is equipped with lead plumbing. If your water is discolored, it does not mean it is unsafe to drink. It just means there is a temporary increase in the concentration of iron within the water. While lines are being flushed, residents are urged to check for discoloration of your water before doing laundry or similar activities. Wayne County Treasurer Donna Masterson is reminding Wayne County Tax Payers that the first installment of Real Estate Taxes is due this Friday, October 7th. Taxes may be paid in person at the Treasurer's Office between 8a.m. and 4:30p.m. After office hours taxes may be paid utilizing the drop box located on the west side of the Courthouse. Real Estate Tax Payments may also be made at the following bank locations: First Financial, Cisne Trust, Mt. Wayne County Circuit Judge Michael Molt has taken under advisement two motions filed by the attorney representing first degree murder suspect Brodey I. Murbarger. Murbarger is awaiting trial on multiple charges related to the disappearance and murder of 15-year-old Megan Nichols of Fairfield. On Tuesday, Murbarger's attorney, Christian Baril argued a motion to move his client's trial out of Wayne County because of too much pretrial publicity. He also filed a motion to sever charges in the case. Murbarger faces multiple charges related to the alleged murder as well as a number of criminal sexual abuse and home invasion charges. Murbarger's attorney wants a jury to decide those charges separately. The motion to sever charges will be argued during a hearing set for August 25. Wayne-White Co-op will take over maintenance and operation of the electric grid for the City of Fairfield on January 1st. Fairfield Mayor Mike Dreith says the change will bring a few adjustments for paying utilities, and the City has done what it can, including sending out letters to its residents, to remind them of the upcoming shift. Notably, people will have to pay utilities to two entities instead of only one. He says both Wayne-White and the City should have level-pay options for utilities, and the City may also put a drop box at City Hall for electric bill payments.
