Students were briefed on the Peer-To-Peer Program

Hillsdale Daily News HILLSDALE Davis Middle School students have learned how tie-dyed shirts can be good conversation-starters when talking about inclusion and disabilities. On Thursday, students were briefed about the peer-to-peer program, then given the opportunity to dye a shirt different colors, representing various disabilities. For many years, Davis Middle School has had a peer-to-peer program, a nationally used program created to help students with autism learn social skills from their peers, teacher Katie Klco Stebelton said. Peer-to-peer has expanded to incorporate students with various disabilities, Stebelton said. The pairing of students leads to greater socialization and independence. Each student is assigned multiple peers. The peers help students during lunch, transitioning to class, or even in the classroom. Their main goal is to be their friend.
