At the Aug. 30 Rotary Club of Kirksville meeting, seven new members from the 2022-2023 Rotary year were recognized along with seven older members including Larry Whitney, the longest serving member with 53 years of service as of Aug. 1, 2023. He is pictured with Club President Melissa Stuart.
The speaker at the Aug. 16 Rotary Club of Kirksville meeting was Dr. Baydon Hilton who spoke about skin cancer prevention and self checks. Dr. Hilton said there are more skin cancers than any other cancers. Every 52 minutes someone dies of melanoma and one in four individuals will get skin cancer in their lifetimes. In 1935, the lifetime risk of melanoma was one in 1,500 but it is now one in 30. Pictured from left are Dr. Hilton, Club President Melissa Stuart and Dr. Lloyd Cleaver. At the Aug. 2 Rotary Club of Kirksville meeting, Gary Moreau, executive director of Mobility Worldwide MO - Columbia, spoke about Mobility Worldwide. The organization provides hand-powered mobility carts to individuals in developing countries who are unable to walk. The carts are built by volunteers at Mobility Worldwide s Columbia facility then shipped to many countries around the world. The carts are provided to needy individuals at no charge, with the costs being covered by donated materials and cart sponsorships. More information on this project is available at giftofmobility.org. At the July 5 Rotary Club of Kirksville meeting, new member Stephanie Mills (right) gave a classification talk in which she spoke about herself and her background. Born and raised in Jefferson City, Mills holds a Master’s degree in Elementary Education from Truman State University and serves as communications director for Tri-County Electric. She is active in various organizations, including serving as president of the Kirksville Area Chamber of Commerce. Mills is pictured with club president Melissa Stuart.
