YOUNGSTOWN Mr. Anthony Harris, 64, of Youngstown, was called home on Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2021, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.
Mr. Harris was born May 13, 1956, in Youngstown, a son of William and Beatrice Harris.
He was previously employed by A-Plus Company. He was an avid pet lover and I am sure that most people who knew Anthony also knew Rocky man’s best friend his beloved dog. He loved classic cars, motorcycles and a variety of music. He had such a big spirit and a great personality; he loved helping people and was a friend and helper to the end.
He leaves to cherish his memory, Cynthia Moore, his loving partner of 25 years; two daughters, Angelica M. Harris and Laura Humphries, both of Seaford, Del.; six siblings, William C. Harris, Kenneth T. Harris, Richard C. Harris, Denise D. Sydney and Sandra L. YOUNGSTOWN Everett Backus Sr., 85, received his heavenly wings on Jan. 7, 2021, at Mercy Health St.Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.
Mr. Backus was born May 29, 1935, in Youngstown, a son of the late William Alexander Backus and Irene Buckins Backus.
He attended The Rayen High School and was employed at the United States Steel in McDonald, Ohio, for more than 30 years. After retirement, he worked at Caprice Care Center in North Lima.
He was of the Baptist faith and a longtime active member at Mount Gilead Baptist Church.
He served on the trustee board and loved singing in the male chorus. He also attended First Calvary Baptist Church later in life. In his early years, he was the leader of the drum and bugle corps at the Buckeye Elks Youth Center.

YOUNGSTOWN Barbara Jean McRae Smith, daughter of the late Mildred McRae Watson and Anthony Hall, and raised by her mother and stepfather, John Watson, was born March 25, 1939, in Youngstown. She transitioned from this life to her heavenly home on Saturday, Jan. 2, 2021, from complications of COVID-19.
Barbara attended North High School, and later she received her cosmetology license.
She had been employed as a hair stylist at BJ’s Hair Salon before becoming an independent stylist with her own salon, Nicolette Beauty Salon. She also had a cleaning business that catered to cleaning senior citizens’ homes. She later bought a house big enough to provide elderly care in her home.
