Samsung Electronics on Wednesday reported a 34.57 percent drop in operating profits for the fourth quarter of 2023, as the company struggles with weak demand for consumer devices.- Cash buffer - The company also reported its full-year profits for 2023 on Wednesday, with operating profit for the year at 6.56 trillion won, down 84.9 percent from the previous year, the Yonhap news agency reported.

The world's second-largest memory chip maker, South Korea's SK Hynix, said on Thursday it had returned to profit after four consecutive quarters of losses driven by demand for chips used in artificial intelligence.SK Hynix is South Korea's second most valuable company, with market capitalisation of more than 101 trillion won, trailing Samsung Electronics' 443 trillion won.

Memory chips maker Micron (NYSE:MU) beat analysts' expectations in Q1 FY2024, with revenue up 15.7% year on year to $4.73 billion. Guidance for next quarter's revenue was also optimistic at $5.3 billion at the midpoint, 4.9% above analysts' estimates. It made a non-GAAP loss of $0.95 per share, down from its loss of $0.04 per share in the same quarter last year.
