An updated version of Luminar's Iris lidar system will help scale Mercedes' level 3 autonomous driving system. 

The company's drive pilot system is said to be equipped with Level 3 autonomous driving features according to the standards set by SAE.

Mercedes will begin allowing consumers to order its Level 3 self-driving assistant starting May 17, in Germany. It will be available on the EQS and S-Class.
