Updated: 7:44 PM CDT May 12, 2021 JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt filed charges Wednesday against a local construction contractor. Carlton J. Curtis, the owner of Curtis All Steel Buildings, has been charged with violating Missouri’s Merchandising Practices Act in Camden, Lincoln, and Phelps counties. In each county, Curtis is charged by complaint with one class E felony of deceptive business practices. The counties allege that Curtis accepted thousands of dollars in advance payments from customers for the construction of metal outbuildings. Curtis failed to construct the buildings or refund the customer’s money. According to the press release, customers suffered approximately $16,750 in losses due to Curtis’s actions: $2,450 in Camden County, $10,000 in Lincoln County, and $4,300 in Phelps County.
