Finding a substitute teacher in Texas has always been a fairly difficult task and the COVID-19 pandemic definitely doesn t help.
School districts across the state are now requiring face-to-face instruction, which in turns leads to an increase in teachers having to stay home to quarantine or self-isolate. But with a drought of substitute teachers, where does that leave students?
According to the Texas Tribune s Aliyya Swaby, districts are choosing to combine multiple classes in a room, turn to paraprofessionals and administrators to fill in for teachers and in some cases, allow students to work remotely for days at a time.
