In honor of Fire Prevention Month in October, fire crews invite the public to a free interactive event, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. that features a parade, live fire demonstrations and family activities.

The Mesa Fire and Medical Department said the pilot was the only person who was on board. The pilot was able to get themselves out of the plane and was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

A pilot walked away after a small plane went down near an East Valley airport Tuesday morning, emergency responders said.

A small plane crashed in a canal near Falcon Field Airport in Mesa early Tuesday morning. Officials said one person was on the plane.

The incident occurred near McKellips and Greenfield roads before 8 a.m. The area is located near Falcon Field Airport.

Officials confirmed Tuesday Deborah Jean Holmes, 70, had been living in her SUV when it hit a median on Newport Boulevard Friday and crashed into a culvert, catching fire.

On the first day of fall, volunteers look to prevent them.

Fire officials said a 5:21 a.m. call Friday regarding a possible grass fire just south of the intersection of Newport Boulevard and 17th Street was soon after upgraded to a vehicle fire that reportedly killed one occupant.

Crews worked for three hours to extinguish and overhaul the fire, which broke out Monday evening near Bristol Avenue and closed several lanes of rush-hour traffic.
