Almost exactly a year after an explosion at Eastway Tank that killed six people — the deadliest incident at an Ottawa workplace in decades — the company and its president/owner are now each facing three charges under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

The family of Danny Beale, one of the six workers who died in last January's Eastway Tank explosion, is reflecting on their first Christmas without him and the belongings he left behind.

Ontario's Ministry of Labour says it found a safety issue early in its investigation of the Jan. 13 explosion at Eastway Tank. The ministry has declined to specify the issue, citing the ongoing investigation.

Eastway workers, grieving families and friends, dignitaries and first responders all gathered in a banquet hall at the Merivale Bowling Centre on Saturday, just a few blocks away from the site of the fatal January explosion — the deadliest workplace disaster in Ottawa in decades.
