“It would be heresy to speak against the addition of new parkland,” said Barry Janyk, executive director of the Federation of Mountain Clubs of B.C. “But where is the investment to care for what we already have?”

On Wednesday, the Ministry of Environment announced 650 hectares of newly-acquired land valued at more than $9.7 million will be added to 16 provincial parks and two protected areas across B.C., from a single hectare in Hope that will provide access to the Fraser River, to two-and-a-half hectares at Mile 463 of the Alaska Highway to enhance camping opportunities in Muncho Lake Park.
