PERKINSTON, Miss. (MGCCC Athletics) - Mississippi Gulf Coast earned its first trip to the NJCAA Division II Softball Championship since 2014 by breaking a season-long tie with Copiah-Lincoln.
The No. 9 Bulldogs trounced the No. 8 Wolves 7-3 on Saturday night in an elimination contest at the Region 23 Tournament to punch their ticket to Oxford, Ala.
“When you think about our very first meeting with this team, the looks on their faces,” Gulf Coast coach Kenneth Long said, “and to be able to come over here and do this, it’s very rewarding. They’re a great team, and I’m so glad they get to go to this tournament.”

PERKINSTON, Miss. (WLOX) - After an uncharacteristically quiet offensive performance Monday, No. 2 Mississippi Gulf Coast pushed 20 runs across in a sweep of archrival Pearl River on Wednesday at Ross-Smith Field.
A’Mya Stevens (So., Laurel/Northeast Jones) allowed only a single earned run in the first game, a 9-5 victory, and the Bulldogs cruised to an 11-6 win in the nightcap.
“We’re a good hitting team,” Gulf Coast coach Kenneth Long said. “We didn’t stress out about Monday. We had good BP yesterday and we hit some balls hard tonight. I was proud of the way we hit.”

PERKINSTON, Miss. (MGCCC Athletics) - Mississippi Gulf Coast has been on the losing end of four last-minute defeats in 2021, including a heartbreaking 3-pointer at the buzzer to lose at Southwest the first time the teams met.
Monday night, the Bulldogs (6-7, 4-7 MACCC South) made a play and finally got a break. Melvion Flanaganâs acrobatic layup in the lane with 45.7 seconds left stood up for a 69-67 win at the Weathers-Wentzell Center.

PERKINSTON, Miss. (MGCCC Athletics) - Mississippi Gulf Coast battled back in the third quarter but couldnât erase all the deficit against No. 9 Jones. The Bobcats held on to win 63-53 Monday at the Weathers-Wentzell Center.
The MACCC South Division clash was the first game of the season for both teams.
