The Swedish Cultural Society of Duluth typically host their annual Lucia Day celebration this time of year. Like most things in 2020, the pandemic has changed that.
Although there isn t a large in person event, the Cultural Society in Duluth is still finding ways to celebrate. Each year on December 13th, Swedish Lucia Day- or Luciadagen- is celebrated around the world.
The day honors the legend of a Sicilian girl named Lucia who risked her life to bring food and light to those being persecuted in the Catacombs. The Northland is no exception to this annual remembrance, but this year the Swedish Cultural Society of Duluth is celebrating Lucia Day using a virtual format.
