Yet another part of south Wexford’s coastline is in danger of collapse as the county continues to suffer from the ravages of coastal erosion. The Heritage Council of Ireland (HCI) has asked Wexford County Council (WCC) to hire contractors to repair a thatched house which had previously been subject to “one of the most significant conservation projects” in recent history. Restored in 2001, the house in Mayglass is believed to be over 300 years old and considered one of “the most important vernacular farmsteads in the country”.
Young learner drivers are among those at risk unless safety issues on Wexford’s New Line Road are addressed by council engineers. At the January meeting of the Rosslare Municipal District (RMD) Councillor Lisa McDonald urged the council to implement traffic calming measures on a road which she said has been the scene of “umpteen accidents”.
