And i am steve aveson. 3500 homes and businesses have been destroyed and we have learned this afternoon that over 2800 of those homes lost were in santa rosa. Right now there are 400 people who remain unaccounted for in Sonoma County alone in the Sheriffs Office is using cadaver dogs to search for those people. We know more than 170,000 acres have burned, and that number could rise as there is very little containment in this particular fire. We were able to get identification in some of those cases by medical devices. A hip implant, for example, has serial number on it. So we actually did in that this case. Two of the identifications were done by medical devices or implants. Two were done through dental records. One was done through difficultinging tattoos. Others were by fingerprints, so they were combined with information from family members. Most of the victims were found in their homes. One was found by the car. The devastated north bay fires broke out. More than a dozen fires still burning tonight. There is optimism that the worst is now behind us. Firecrews say they turned a corner in the last 24 hours as they fight to contain the deadly fires. Today Evacuation Orders were lifted for napa and calastoga. They estimate damage in Sonoma County will reach 3 billion. Officials say the fires destroyed an estimated 5700 homes and the death toll did not change. It remains at 40. Today, the coroner identified four more of the people who died in the fire. 79yearold sharon ray robinson, 71yearold Daniel Martin sutherd and 82yearold mcreynolds all from santa rosa, also killed 72 lee roger from felony allen.
