ken? reporter: east palo alto is not the murder capital of the world any more. the police got together with some local crime experts to come up with ways to start it. this is one of the east palo alto neighborhoods. eight shootings in or near here in the last two weeks including one sunday night that left a 15-year-old boy dead. the gang task force is on the prowl tonight. once we see these out of town cars rolling around, they know the task force is in turn to. this is from a struggle inside the local norteno gang. this may be groups trying to break off some into smaller groups. we ve seen smaller groups. we ve seen ex-gang members, community act activists and outreach to help them with jail with house. there s a garden tended by former gang members with proceeds going to other reentry programs. we ve got to get a more organized, intensive effort that s specifically focused on dealing with kids that are in gangs or that are close to being in gangs.
