good evening. thanks for joining us for the special edition of the news. we re on a half hour early, of course, because of the 49er preseason game starting at 5:00. we begin tonight in the south bay where about 20 people are out of their homes after an apartment fire. the fire started shortly after 10:00 this morning in the evergreen neighborhood. two townhouses were destroyed and another damaged. here s the latest for us. reporter: hey, diane. two of the homes were gutted by the fire that started about 10:15 this morning. there are five townhomes that were attached in the line. the other three have water and smoke damage. we spoke to one of the residents. she s very upset. got a call while she was at work. the fire started and quickly lapped up the outside of one of the townhouses, spread to the attic area which is common between the five townhomes. fire crews were training, luckily nearby at cunningham park with santa clara and millpedes fire departments. they were on sce
in pacifica on hicdyanat gayew dane.at gdrayivdrive. just aew blocks west of skyline. that s where nbc area s vicky nguyen is with us now. vicky, tell us what you know. reporter: jessica, investigators have just finished gathering evidence from inside this shell gas station. only the owners remain cleaning up after a store clerk was shot three times in the legs and feet. now, this is actually the second robbery today. that happened here at this shell here on skyline and park view. now, the shooting happened just after 8:00. officers say three men stormed the shop with one semiautomatic gun and then opened fire. police are not releasing the identity of the man shot. this is the third armed robbery here at this intersection this week. detectives say the chevron across the street was hit just a few days ago. with the downturn in the economy we ve had over the last few years, we get quite a few more, just like everybody else. it s shocking. why would you shoot them after yo
immediately after the fire i did not doubt it at all. most of the money came from a grass-roots fund-raising effort. through garage sales, lemonade stands, and through the corporate donations has now totalled over $150 thousand. the state aid bill that president barack obama signed last week is to expect $1.2 billion for california s cash strapped schools. uncertainty over the state budget could delay or restore school days. the school budget is 45 days late. the obama administration wants to administer and distribute that money this month and to use it for this academic school year. standardized test has risen over this to the california, these historic have shown increases in all areas, english, language, arts, 17 percent increase. and the filipino students have the greatest improvement. and mathematics, and a rate it by 23 percent. latin stestudents alsod an increase of 20 per person, and also, prof. and she in science, social sciences, 20%. you can find these results
