Alberta police watchdog refers 2021 shooting to the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service to consider a culpable homicide charge, but after a review, the Crown won't pursue a criminal case.

Albertas police watchdog is on pace for its busiest year ever, while it also works through a backlog of investigations from up to six years earlier.

On March 20, 2022, a male was arrested by Calgary Police Service (CPS) officers. At the arrest-processing centre, an officer repeatedly used force on the handcuffed male, resulting in his being injured and hospitalized for treatment. 

Arrests were made following a Nov. 14, 2020, case where a vehicle fled police outside Lacombe, about 126 km south of Edmonton. 

An RCMP officer is facing two charges of assault in connection with an arrest that occurred near Lacombe, Alta., in 2020, according to Alberta's police watchdog.

On March 14, 2021, the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) was directed to investigate assaults alleged to have occurred during the arrest of individuals by RCMP officers on Nov. 14, 2020, after a vehicle fled police on a road outside of Lacombe.

A woman who worked in a small-town RCMP detachment is frustrated with Albertas police accountability system after the Crown declined to prosecute an RCMP officer she claims pointed a Taser at her.

In a release on Wednesday afternoon, ASIRT said it was directed to investigate sexual assault allegations against an off-duty Calgary Police Service officer on Oct. 13, 2020.
