A suspect in a triple murder from 2000 has been taken into custody following a transfer from Mexico, authorities said.

A suspect was in custody Thursday in connection with a drug-related shooting that fatally wounded three people, including a toddler, in Normal Heights 23 years ago.

At the time, SDPD detectives identified the suspect as 22-year-old Sergio Lopez Contreras, who is now 44 years old.

The victims were Michael Plummer, 20, his girlfriend Adah Pearson, 18, and his nephew Julio Rangel, 21-months-old
