A conservative senator apologises over claims that schools put litter boxes in bathrooms to accommodate "furries" who "dress up as animals". 

A TikTok video of a mother at a school boarding meeting went viral in which she says she heard Michigan schools were providing litter boxes for furries — students who identify as cats or dogs. Soon after, similar claims began littering the platform.

The school system superintendent said "there is no truth whatsoever" to the rumor of litter boxes for students who self-identify as cat "furries."

The rumor got so out of control and was believed by so many people and students, that a school district had to have a news release to deny it. They were indeed NOT accomodating a child who identified as a cat (and was a furry in a cat costume) by providing a litter box in the unisex bathroom.
