By TOMMY REZACSt. Joseph PostFriday is the last day for area restaurants to sign up for St. Joseph's third annual Restaurant Week, which comes up May 10-17.St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce director of membership services Jess Mengel explains the overall purpose of Restaurant Week."Highlighting the local flavors of St. Joseph," Mengel said on KFEQ's The Hotline. "Obviously, we don't discriminate against any franchises that are in town. We love them, too. A lot of them are locally owned. Really, it's a way to drive revenue to the people who are in our community. Get people to try something they haven't tried before."Any restaurant who hasn't signed up yet can do so on the St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce website. Mengel says 34 restaurants had signed up as of Thursday morning. That's up from the 32 that signed up last year. All participating restaurants are making a donation to the Open Door Food Kitchen in St. Joseph. In addition, Parties on the Parkway is making its return to St. Joseph this summer with the first concert slated for May 12.Mengel says this annual summer concert series is a great activity for the whole family."It's family friendly," she said. "It's something to do on a Thursday, which is kind of one of those days of the week where you're ready for the weekend, but you're just not quite there. So, it adds something to do and it's not a huge trip to go do it. It's local, you can eat, be outside, you can drink. It's just a good time for everyone there."Parties on the Parkway comes up on the second Thursday of every month starting in May. The first show features the band Under the Influence. They'll play from 5-8 p.m. on May 12 at Southwest Parkway and King Hill Drive.Admission to these concerts are free, and they feature several food and drink vendors. Pets are also welcome to come to the concerts as well. This year's full Parties on the Parkway lineup: Under the Influence, May 12 at SW Parkway & King Hill DriveMichael Shaun Brown, June 9 at SW Parkway & 28th StreetWhatever Rocks, July 14 at SW Noyes & Messanie, Parkway AYachtly Groove, August 11 at Northside ComplexVinyl Revival, September 8 at Remington Nature Center You can follow Tommy on Twitter @TommyKFEQ and St. Joseph Post @StJosephPost.
