Manitoba has reached several vaccine milestones this week, according to the province’s implementation task force co-lead, Johanu Botha.

That includes activating the distribution model and pop-up clinics in rural areas. Our goal is to be able to give 1.5 million doses of vaccine by the end of the second quarter, the second quarter beginning on April 1 and lasting for three months. To achieve that, our daily maximum capacity has to be 20,000 doses, said Botha.

The Manitoba Funeral Service Association (MFSA) wants to engage with Manitoba Public Health to come up with reasonable accommodations for grieving families.

Kevin Sweryd, president of the association, said he wants funeral homes to be considered like any other business and be held to a level of accountability like all other businesses, including following all indoor protocols or fundamentals.

The two-day virtual event, scheduled for March 29 and 30, is expected to draw hundreds of people from North and South America who have expressed their desire to put a stop to the ongoing crisis, according to the association’s news release.
