Freddie Sears, Cole Skuse and Daryl Murphy were on target for the Blues as they beat Cardiff 3-1 at Portman Road to cement their position in the play-off places. Sears put Town ahead after eight minutes and Eoin Doyle equalised for the Welshmen before Cole Skuse lashed in a 30-yard stunner on 29 - his first goal for the Blues - then Murphy sealed the victory in second-half injury time.
Boss Mick McCarthy says midfielder Luke Hyam has been “excellent” during his recent spell in the side, but believes he needs to add more attacking endeavour to his game. Former Northgate High School pupil Hyam signed a contract extension until the summer of 2014 earlier in the season.
Former Blue Jaime Peters has failed to win a contract with the Vancouver Whitecaps back in his native Canada. Peters, 25, has been with the MLS side for pre-season, having has his Town contract terminated by mutual consent in the summer.
Former Blues striker Jordan Rhodes netted just after the hour to see Town to a 1-0 defeat to Blackburn Rovers in a scrappy affair at Ewood Park. There was little between the teams in a poor game with the only goal somewhat fortunate, Aaron Cresswell clearing off the line from Grant Hanley and Rhodes stabbing it over the line off Blues keeper Stephen Henderson.
