during america s debate over health care reform, critics said britain s government-run system was a bureaucracy that rationed care to those in need. were they right? britain does have a system that is as close to socialized medicine as any rich country gets. the government pays for everything, owns most of the hospitals and pays most of the doctors. but consider this. compared to americans, the brits have longer life spans, a lower infant mortality rate and a health care system that consistently ranks higher on every measure. all this and everybody s care is covered. no payments to doctors and no charges from your insurance company, and no kco pays or fee or nothing. one doctor performs a liver transplant surgery with a live donor. a young man is giving part of his liver to his younger brother. the river is cut in half with one part for the younger brother and the other part staying in the donor. the liver is a remarkable organ, so can you take pieces of it and it will func
democrat in 2010 is going to hang over them like a sharp sword. republicans clearly lost the legal battle, but may have won the political war. the ruling ignited many americans as if the electrical equivalent of political pearl harbor. shock from lethargy and indifference. conservatives are, to borrow a phrase from the president, fired up and ready to go. the democrats got what they wanted, but they didn t really get what they wanted in the sense that they didn t get what they got. what they got was the responsibility for the largest tax increase in american history and not just on nasty old millionaires and billionaires, oh, no, this is going to bust the budget of americans of all income levels. and middle class, buckle up, you were promised no tax increases, but you ve got them. 21 tax increases in all, 12 of them are going to hit the group that supposedly was shielded. those making less than $250,000 a year. and now, the court has handed the president an island of victory,
repeal and replace. are you saying that s wrong? i think any one who wants to repeal is going to have to explain to the people that i just described why they are going to lose the benefits they are already getting why their kids are going to lose coverage on their health insurance why the doughnut hole will come back. as far as the debate goes, i understand there remains a disagreement. the question is if you want certainty, if you want the business community and individuals we are going forward you can calm things down and say we are going to give it a chance and implement it. that is what whie do once we ha the supreme court withhold it. others might choose to have a debate. i think the american people want us to focus on the economy on creating jobs on moving forward. we sent congress plans on which they were enacted we would create a million more jobs. teachers, firemen, policemen in home refinancing and building our roads it is time to move on to the agenda american pe
