Micron Technologys CEO Sanjay Mehrotra announced that its upcoming Gujarat facility will produce chips for Indian consumers and international clients. The Gujarat facility is the first major semiconductor company investment in India that plans to generate 5,000 job opportunities. Micron announced an $825 million investment on June 22 in its first chip assembly and test facility.

U.S. chipmaker AMD to invest $400 million in India by 2028, Telecom News, ET Telecom

AMDs announcement was made by its Chief Technology Officer Mark Papermaster at an annual semiconductor conference that started Friday in Prime Minister Narendra Modis home state of Gujarat. Other speakers at the flagship event include Foxconn Chairman Young Liu and Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra.

amd: U.S. chipmaker AMD to invest $400 million in India by 2028

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) plans to build its largest design centre in Bengaluru and invest around $400m in India over the next five years. The centre is expected to open by year-end and create 3,000 engineering jobs in India over five years. It will increase AMDs footprint in India from nine locations to ten, where the chipmaker already employs more than 6,500 people.

India sets steady path toward local semiconductor industry

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has championed the push into semiconductors, including with a $10 billion fund unveiled nearly two years ago to draw chipmakers. More broadly, he has outlined ambitions to create a robust tech manufacturing sector — dubbed “Make in India” — that has already drawn investments from Apple Inc. suppliers.
