High school senior Martha Hernandez was born in Baja California, Mexico, and came to the U.S. when she was 10 years old, in fifth grade. She was still considered an English learner when she entered high school, based on California’s test of English proficiency.
Early college and middle college high schools have existed in California for decades, but they often haven’t reflected the state’s K-12 diversity or high school population. Efforts to change that are underway.
Recognizes schools for their exemplary dual enrollment programming that provides opportunities to enroll in and earn college credits while in high school. Schools selected for this award demonstrate quality, equity driven dual enrollment programs.
