Here We Go Forever: Mogwai Interviewed Pushing COVID barriers to produce an exemplary new album... Mogwai are a force of nature. The Glasgow rooted band have pushed past countless barriers in their time, a 25 year span that has found them move from the out-skirts of British music to claiming bona fide Top 10 success. New album As The Love Continues is simply remarkable, even by their own lofty standards. Following hot on the heels of their ZeroZeroZero soundtrack work, it ...

Mogwai - As The Love Continues (Album Review) Monday, 22 February 2021 Photo: Antony Crook In the biography that comes with ‘As the Love Continues’ comedian Robin Ince writes, “Mogwai are a band of no significant meaning.” And, while that may seem like a jab, it’s hard to argue with him. As much as the post-rock quartet’s name may suggest a love for Gremlins, it only stuck because they “meant to change it, but never got around to it.” Their in-joke album titles have ran...

Many acts nearing the end of their third decade would be forgiven for slowing their pace, for being selective in their output, and even for running out of ideas. Not Mogwai. The fir...

25 years. That’s how long Mogwai have quietly (and loudly) been doling out guitar-heavy detonation at the stamp of a Stuart Braithwaite overdrive pedal. After all that time, there’s undoubtedly a method to Mogwai, but the beautiful noise they’ve made over the years has only stood because of their dedication to reimagining the potential of sheer volume and plunging walls of noise. As The Love Continues has all of their hallmarks (the plaintive lulls, the booming peaks, the whirling anger) ...

/ 28 January 2021 2148 Views If longevity doesn’t dampen a band’s questing determination, might a global pandemic do the job? Not if you’re Mogwai, who navigated both with inspiration and spirit in 2020. With touring on hold, Scotland’s sons of guitar anarchy and DIY synth splendour released two pay-what-you-will digital albums in the last year, a live belter (2018) and a lush score (ZeroZeroZero). And although the 25th anniversary of their debut single could have been...
