Natick High proves to be too much for Plymouth South to handle

PLYMOUTH – Just about everything would have had to break right if the Plymouth South wrestling team was going to knock off Natick High Thursday night in the Division 2 dual meet state championship.
Unfortunately, it didn’t happen.
The Red Hawks are your Division 2 state champions after taking a 45-18 win over the Panthers under a single spotlight inside of a packed and sweltering hot Natick High Fieldhouse.
The champions of the Div. 2 Central section, Natick finishes the season with a perfect record of 14-0.
“We’d seen them against Whittier Tech (earlier this week) and we knew they were a stacked wrestling team,” Plymouth South Head Coach Marc Loranger said. “We did all we could and every one of my kids wrestled their hearts out, but Natick was just the better team. There’s really no place you could put a finger on and say that’s what turned the match. They’re just very good everywhere

PLYMOUTH – Even in a down year for every wrestling team in the area, Plymouth South still finds a way to stay ahead of the trend and keep on rolling.
“Every coach I’ve talked to is telling me their numbers are down this year and we are no different. That said, I’m really happy with where we are at with our numbers,” said Loranger, who has 42 kids on the roster when he usually has more than 70 grapplers in the program during a regular season. “We’re down, but we are in a very good spot because we are pretty spread out within the weight classes. We can go two or three deep in almost all of them.”
