former vice president and gop presidential candidate mike perns says he s not yet convinced that donald trump s actions on january 6th were criminal. pence s comments come as the former president faces a potential indictment over his actions on that day. take a listen. the president s words were reckless that day. i had no right to overturn the election. while his words were reckless, based on what i know, i m not yet convinced they were criminal. trz was wrong that day and he s still wrong in asserting i had the right to overturn the election, but what his intentions were as you know, criminal charges have everything to do with intent. what the president s state of mind was i don t honestly know what his intention was that day, as he spoke to that crowd, as he tweeted during the riot itself, but for my part, from what i saw, as i said, his actions were reckless.
slightly open to perhaps taking a different view of president trump s culpability. it s not wide open. but he left open the possibility of changing his mind because he says he was not yet convinced. that s a very different response than the one that senator tim scott gave recently where he said he did not hold trump culpable at all for what happened on january 6th. senator scott, like vice president pence was targeted that day. so pence, unlike another candidate, unlike tim scott, pence has actually left open the possibility he might change his mind. chris christie is also waiting to see the indictment. christie is very critical of former president trump, but even he is not ready to say anything about the indictment until he says it. i m looking and i assume many of us are looking at the reactions
of picks just yet. we have plenty to talk about. let s bring in matt lewis, former georgia congressman and trump supporter jack kingston, good morning. good morning. jack, the president-elect has a busy day ahead. he had a busy day saturday. what did he talk about in his first statement to people, 6:23 this morning about hamilton. let s read this tweet. the cast and producers of hamilton which i hear is highly overrated should immediately apologize to mike perns for the terrible behavior. i just wonder, he s been so adamant about this ridicule of this cast for what they said but we ve covered the hate crimes across this country, the state of degrading and vandalizing the
fundamental dynamics and i doubt in the electoral college, this will be close. i think secretary clinton will win comfortably in the electoral college, maybe a lot of close margins in the states, themselves. one of the soft spots is the dynamic between paul ryan and the candidate for president donald trump. mike perns excuse me asked the times yesterday if this is the guy s friend, he s allies. would you endorse ryan for another term as speaker. he wouldn t answer. eventually an aide to pence, yes, if he were in the house he would. pence on the spot, not answering that question. that dynamic between trump and trump supporters and paul ryan, that s poisonous, can paul ryan survive long term? i think he k. i think he has to for the sake of the party. i know mike pence, he s a good man. i was disappointed. i know how excited paul ryan and the other republicans were about
