Whoop-Up Days plans announced: No parade, fair moved to September

  LETHBRIDGE The sights, sounds, tastes and smells of Whoop-Up Days will be returning to Lethbridge this year although the fair will be held about 10 days later, and will be a bit smaller than usual. Exhibition Park announced the fair will be held from Sept. 2-5. It will include Wild Rose Shows midway, music, beer gardens, food vendors, marketplace and horse racing. It will also include free admission and free parking, although that will substantially reduced due to on-going construction of the new Agri-food Hub and Trade Centre. “This event as a community celebration has never been more important,” said Mike Warkentin, Lethbridge & District Exhibition CEO. “The history of this event is as old as this community.

After COVID took the fun out of last summer with the cancellation of regular Whoop-Up Days programming, Lethbridge’s annual fair is returning to Exhibition Park in September. Mike Warkentin, Chief Executive Officer of the Lethbridge & District Exhibition, said Friday Whoop-Up Days will be staged from Sept. 2-5 at the Exhibition grounds. Due to the financial impact COVID had on people, admission to the fair will be free, he told media.

Hot grills and hotter competition at Lethbridge BBQ battle

  LETHBRIDGE The meats are smokin and the grills are lit down at Exhibition Park in Lethbridge. Barbecue masters from across Alberta have made their way to Lethbridge for the inaugural Smoke, Wind and Fire competition. It s the first event put out by the Kansas City Barbecue Society since COVID-19 restrictions lifted, and the people down at ex park couldn t be more excited. This event, in its inaugural year, has been an absolute success, said Mike Warkentin, CEO for Lethbridge & District Exhibition. We re full in our masters series category for what we expected and we ve got twenty four teams competing today in our backyard competition.
