see you, fredricka. we have a lot straight ahead, including pakistan, where there s a lot of activity, growing outrage after the government says nato helicopters opened fire on two military checkpoints. at least 24 soldiers were reportedly killed near the volatile border with afghanistan. let s get an update from reza sayah. yeah, fredricka, an angry reaction in pakistan to what officials are calling a nato air strike on two pakistani military check posts on pakistani soil. it s killed at least 24 soldiers. this is an incident that s already sparked a number of anti-american, anti-fato protests in pakistan, some of those protests taking place in the city of lahore. according to pakistani officials, this took place in mohmand. it sits right next to the afghanistan border. there s a lot of militant activity, obvious times nato troops conduct operations there. the agreement is for nato to stay on afghan soil, but according to pakistani officials, it doesn t happened. nato

richard, in terms of us trying to piece together the clues of how connected he may have been to militant groups, as you mentioned he has described he has said he received bomb-making training in waziristan. an official said he may have received military training in a town called cohat, and we are hearing reports he may have links to a military group named jaish-e-mohammed. do any of those things sound important in understanding what we are dealing with and how connected he was? he was from a very prominent family as i just discussed. he was from an area where there was a lot of militant groups operating. his family has a mom in peshawar. he went to karachi, which has a lot of militant activity. went peshawar, and then down to waziristan.
northern afghanistan have been falling sick to illness. and the doctors do believe it s poison gas. an investigation is ongoing, but this is happening in an area in northern afghanistan which was once considered the safe part of afghanistan, immune total ban activity. that was, until last year. we have seen more and more militant activity in this area, but it s not necessarily from the taliban. it s from a group whose leader is the notorious man who himself used to attack girls in kabul back in the 60s and 70s when there was relative peace in afghanistan going to the universities throwing acid on their faces. this is the kind of attack we have seen in the past in different parts of afghanistan where they try to get girls afraid, try to get their families afraid from letting the girls have an education. if you remember during the taliban regime from 1996 to 2001, girls were banned from getting an education.
