(Jonny Cournoyer/Paramount Pictures via AP) It may finally be time to return to movie theaters. More than half of all adults in the country are fully vaccinated. Lockdowns have gone into remission. And best of all, there’s a fun summer popcorn movie opening up this weekend. This film was actually about to be released last year when the pandemic shut everything down. It must have seemed like a terrible break to everyone involved at the time, but in hindsight now really is excellent timing for ...

Blockbuster season begins in earnest this Memorial Day weekend Jeremy Fuster | May 25, 2021 @ 4:22 PM Just how much has the box office recovered so far? The film industry is about to start getting answers to that question as Paramount’s “A Quiet Place — Part II” and Disney’s “Cruella” will kick off the summer blockbuster season this Memorial Day weekend. “Quiet Place II” is expected to be the No. 1 film, as it will be released exclusively in theaters while “Cruella” will ...

Director John Krasinski, who makes a brief appearance as Lee Abbott in an opening flashback sequence, takes something of a Jaws 2 approach toward the beginning, recognizing that it’s not possible to duplicate the effect of holding off until the end to show us the creatures. The action-packed, Spielberg-ian opening sequence is stunningly impressive, with eye-popping visual effects, but I initially found myself thinking that I wasn’t going to get nearly as scared this time around. But once...

On Memorial Day Weekend, beloved Fort Lauderdale art-house cinema will screen its first films since COVID lockdowns, beginning with buzzed-about thriller 'A Quiet Place Part II'

Shhhhh.

Part II suggests the sequel picks up immediately after the memorable ending to A Quiet Place, Krasinski decides to take us right back to the beginning. During an astonishing cold open, we see the true horror of the alien invasion unfold, showcasing Krasinskis confidence as a filmmaker, blending intense action with character beats that fill in gaps from the first movie. Youll already be clenching every muscle (even though you know the Abbotts survive) and the title hasnt even been shown. A Qui...

A year after its initial release date, the highly anticipated sequel for A Quiet Place releases in cinemas on Friday, 28 May. Following the deadly events at home, the Abbott family (Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, Noah Jupe) must now face the terrors of the outside world as they continue their fight for survival in silence. But before you head out to watch Part II, in the video above, were looking at the most important plot points viewers should keep in mind before seeing this horror sequel. ...

A Quiet Place wove its magic by being a damn good human drama first and foremost. The family dynamic and the near-impossibility of even surviving in the world was sketched out in a few opening scenes that still seem to me as perfect a wordless piece of world-building as anyone ever needs to make. A Quiet Place Part II opens with a deft callback to that film. It is so eerily effective that when Dad Lees (John Krasinski) truck shatters the early morning silence and swings noisily into a park, it ...

In the spring of 2018, silence gave way to terror in A Quiet Place. John Krasinski’s critically heralded, crowd-pleasing horror-thriller ushered audiences into a world under attack by ravenous creatures who hunt their prey by sound. On a remote farm, the Abbott family strove to survive by eliminating noise from their lives. But some sounds can’t be stifled.  Now, Krasinski, his cast, and those creepy critters are back for A Quiet Place Part II. Last year, before the pandemic pushed back t...
