Summer is in full swing and students across the land are rejoicing! Even teachers get time off, and deservedly so. And yet, even though school is the last thing many people want to think about right now, we thought this would be the perfect time to take a moment and reflect on how the Milpitas Unified School District (MUSD) fared this past school year. How did students, teachers, and parents cope with the drastic changes implemented in an effort to stop the spread of COVID-19? And what is the district planning for this coming school year?

A 7-year-old child in California is dead after being struck by a stolen car in a hit-and-run incident, according to police.
The fatal incident occurred on Monday afternoon when the child, whose identity has not been released, was riding on a bicycle at the intersection of North Park Victoria Drive and Kennedy Drive in Milpitas, according to the Milpitas Police Department. Police investigating a shooting at the Great Mall in Milpitas Saturday night announced only the gunman was shot in the incident.
Milpitas police said the 22-year-old San Francisco man sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was not the victim of an act of violence. The man was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. During the evacuations, two people had medical emergencies, which were not related to the incident, and were taken to a nearby hospital.
The shopping center is one of the largest in Northern California, with more than 200 stores.
