Mingus Spring News Today

The lightning-caused Grapevine Fire, which started July 21, was listed at 7% contained Tuesday, Aug. 1, and covering approximately 1,049 acres on Mingus Mountain in the Verde Ranger District, about 10 miles east of Prescott Valley.

The Prescott National Forest has announced that the closure along Forest Road 104 and Forest Road 413, related to the Grapevine Fire, will end as of 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2.

The lightning-caused Racetrack Fire, which started July 23, was at 60% containment as of Friday morning, July 28, according to the Prescott National Forest, and a Southwest Area Type 4 Team led by Incident Commander Andrew Giralt, assumed command of the fire, which is burning north of Highway 169 and south of Crater Mountain near the community of Cherry.

Fire activity declined Tuesday, July 25, over the Racetrack Fire, north of Highway 169 and south of Crater Mountain, near Cherry, increasing containment to 20%. The lightning-caused fire started July 21, and is currently at 405 acres.

As the Grapevine Fire continues to burn on Mingus Mountain, crews responded to a second lightning-caused fire Sunday afternoon north of Highway 169 near the community of Cherry.
