WV-seeded $50M mining insurance unit 'in business' | Energy and Environment
The Mining Mutual Insurance Company created by West Virginia Senate Bill 1 of 2022 with $50 million of taxpayer money to support coal mine operators has been "a little bit more" active in providing bonds than its head expected. The company was created to limit the states liability for mine reclamation cleanup, but critics say it doesnt address that liability.
