Minister of Health and Wellness Lieutenant Colonel Jeffrey Bostic today assured that Government has not made COVID-19 vaccination mandatory, neither will it support any employer trying to force workers to get the jab.
He said while health authorities wanted to see as many Barbadians as possible immunized against the virus, the choice to get the vaccine or not is an individual one.
The Health Minister made that clear in response to an event last Saturday when scores of people gathered at Sky Mall, Haggatt Hall to sign a petition against what social activist Winston Clarke described as vaccine intimidation. Clarke, who organized the event, is advocating against Barbadians facing consequences for refusing to take the vaccine.

Minister of Health and Wellness Lt Col Jeffrey Bostic is adamant that health authorities will not be publicly disclosing the hot spots for the COVID-19 virus on the island.
Today, Minister Bostic told members of the media at the Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO), Dayrell’s Road, Christ Church office where a donation of equipment was made to aid the country’s response to the pandemic, that announcing the communities where there are clusters could lead to people being stigmatized, as was the case during the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
“We tend not to go that route because we want to preserve some level of confidentiality because at the end of the day if the persons in communities do not have confidence in what we are doing and in the system then they may not be willing to come forward and to participate in the various programmes that we are trying to put out there on their behalf,” he said.

Government will be introducing
a weekend curfew, as part of efforts to further restrict unnecessary movement, which has been deemed a contributing factor to the spread of COVID-19.
Minister of Health and Wellness,
Lieutenant Colonel Jeffrey Bostic, made the announcement during today’s press briefing, as he expressed concern about persons who appeared to be “leaving home for the sake of leaving home”.
Referring to the high volume of traffic on the island’s roads during the “period of pause”, Minister Bostic said he made a recommendation to the Prime Minister and the Emergency Operations Centre, “to do a little more” to significantly inhibit travel throughout the island, particularly over this weekend.
