Amaravati, May 24: Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy attended the video conference virtually held by Union Home Minister Amit Shah with Chief Ministers of West Bengal, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Lieutenant Governor of Andaman Nicobar to review preparedness in wake of the Cyclone Yaas.
During the Video Conference, the Chief Minister said, based on the cyclone movement, the impact of Yaas on the state is likely to be less. He said officials of all concerned departments have attended the video conference held by the Union cabinet secretary on May 22 and the state government is on high alert to deal with the cyclone.

AMARAVATI/NEW DELHI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday held a video conference with the Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha West Bengal and the Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands to review the states preparedness ahead of the upcoming Cyclone Yaas.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy participated in this virtual meeting from the CM Camp Office here. The measures to be taken in view of Cyclone Yaas affecting the respective states were discussed.
CM YS Jagan said there was a possibility of a slight impact on Northern AP and the coastal areas, considering the cyclones movements on the state. He also explained that the government machinery was vigilant and was moving forward while assessing the situation. The evacuation process of people in vulnerable areas has commenced in Srikakulam district, bordering Odisha. Helplines have been set up
Attends video-conference with Amit Shah
Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Monday said that Andhra Pradesh is expected to be spared much of the impact of an impending cyclone named Yaas, which is likely to make landfall along the West Bengal-Odisha coast on Wednesday.
Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy put forth his observation during a video-conference with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, which was also attended by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, and Andaman & Nicobar Lieutenant Governor Devendra Kumar Joshi on Monday.
During the conference, Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy said that going by the movement of the cyclone, its impact on Andhra Pradesh was not expected to be severe. However, the State government remained on high alert to face any contingency, he said.

AMARAVATI: The State Human Rights Committee chaired by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has recommended the name of retired High Court Judge Justice M Seetharama Murti as the chairperson and Retired District Judge Dande Subramanyam (Judicial) and Advocate Dr G Srinivasa Rao (Non-Judicial) as the members of the Human Rights Commission.
The State Human Rights Committee, on Wednesday held a meeting at the Secretariat to finalize the names, to recommend as chairperson and members of Andhra Pradesh State Human Rights Commission.
Home Minister Mekathoti Sucharitha proposed the names and the selection committee approved of it. The committee members Legislative Council Chairman MA Sharif, Legislative Assembly Speaker Tammineni Sitaram along with Home Minister Mekathoti Sucharitha and Chief Secretary Aditya Nath Das were present in the meeting.

GUNTUR: A dispute between the two communities in Velagapudi at Amaravati region, over the construction of an arch led to clashes and stone pelting on Sunday night. Seven people were left injured and a woman died during the incident. Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Mekathoti Sucharitha visited the region, met the family members of the deceased woman Mariyamma, and promised Rs 10 lakh ex gratia to the family.
As per reports, two groups clashed with each other over the construction of an arch for an SC Colony at Velagapudi village in Thullur mandal of Guntur district on Sunday night. Mariyamma who was injured in the stone pelting along with the several others were admitted to the Government Hospital in Thullur, where she succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment. The villagers and the woman s family members staged a protest with the dead body and demanded justice. Police bandobast was set up to prevent further clashes in the region.
