Muscat: Omani abalone has been found on Masirah Island after 40 years.
A statement issued online by Oman News Agency (ONA) said: The team of the Fisheries Research Center in Dhofar Governorate affiliated to the General Directorate of Fisheries Research at the Ministry of Agricultural, Fisheries and Water Resources was able to document the presence of Omani abalone on Masirah Island since its disappearance in 1977.
The results, which were implemented in February of this year, indicated the presence of abalone at a variable rate in several locations. This field survey comes within the framework of concern for the biological diversity of marine organisms and following up on the state of fish stocks in the Sultanate.

Muscat: Fish monitoring teams seized and confiscated more than 30 fishing cages being used to fish outside of season.
The Ministry of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries and Water Resources said: “The fisheries control team in Dhofar Governorate was able yesterday to seize and confiscate (31) fishing cages prepared for fishing outside the season without a license. Legal procedures against the violators are being completed.”

Lease signed to implement smart agriculture project

Muscat: The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources (MoAFWR) signed an agreement to lease 100 acres with the Agricultural and Fisheries Development Company (AFDC) to invest and implement the smart agriculture project in the Wilayat of Al Kamil Wa Al Wafi.
The OMR5.6 million project aims to increase the productivity of various vegetables, extend their production seasons, and raise the quality and safety of local production.
This agreement comes within the framework of cooperation between the public and private sectors and approaches of Oman Vision 2040 to encourage investment, especially in the agricultural and animal fields, to achieve local food security and create job opportunities for citizens.
