Civil society in Uzbekistan continues to suffer from restrictions to freedom of speech and barriers to the legal registration of non-governmental organisations (NGOs). Legislation that limits the right to peaceful assembly places excessive requirements on organisers of public meetings.
Yet while the Uzbekistani state stifles civic space, the government boasts of the number of non-governmental organisations in the country and insists that it is implementing measures to “radically increase the role of civil society institutions in the process of democratic renewal of the country”.
The reality is that many of these organisations are, in fact, in some sense controlled by the state.

Dubai: Lt General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, the Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, recently received a delegation from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Uzbekistan.
The delegation, headed by Turakhojaev Najmiddin Sadriovich, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs for Information Technology, was received within the framework of enhancing cooperation and coordination between both parties and to facilitate exchange of experiences and information that mutually benefit both bodies. Sadriovich began his tour with a visit to the General Department of Traffic where he was introduced to the smart systems used by Dubai Police in traffic operations and methods of utilising artificial intelligence to achieve the force’s objectives.

ABU DHABI, 28th February 2021 (WAM) New and emerging crimes pose a big challenge to law enforcement and a state alone cannot tackle them effectively, said Lt. General Bobojonov Pulat Razzakovich, Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
In an exclusive interview with the Emirates News Agency (WAM) during his official visit to Abu Dhabi last week, he pointed out, Today, it is natural that the use of social media and other digital platforms is growing. At the same time, such opportunities are leading to an increase in the number of various types of cybercrimes.
WAM As new and emerging crimes pose challenges to law enforcement agencies worldwide, it s imperative that countries stand united in the fight to tackle them.
That s according to Lt. General Bobojonov Pulat Razzakovich, Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, who highlighted that no state can fight these types of crimes independently .
Establishing continuous cooperation and exchanging experience in detection and prevention of such crimes, especially cybercrimes, will benefit each and every country, the minister said during an exclusive interview with national news agency WAM.
Lt. General Razzakovich highlighted how working with the UAE on combatting such crimes have been developing rapidly , especially based on the bilateral agreements signed during Uzbekistan s President to the UAE in 2019.
