Islamabad: The countrywide lockdown during the Eid holidays is yielding results and the numbers of daily deaths as well as new cases of COVID-19 are on the decline in the country.
According to the latest data of the National Command & Operation Centre (NCOC), Pakistan reported 48 deaths and 2,517 new cases of COVID-19 in the last twenty-four hours.
With these latest figures, the country’s total number of cases have jumped to 873,220 while the death toll stands at 19,384.
According to the NCOC, after 30,700 tests in the last twenty-four hours the country’s positivity rate was 8.19 per cent while the number of active cases had also dropped to 73,398 from 75,000 a day earlier.
Islamabad: Pakistan is not solely reliant on donations or ‘vaccine gifts’ rather the country is pursuing a comprehensive purchase plan and in this regard, contracts have been signed with three companies to secure 30 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine in coming days.
Dr Faisal Sultan, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Health, said this at a media briefing on Tuesday after attending a meeting of the National Command & Operation Centre (NCOC). Sultan urged the nation not to pay attention to negative propaganda or misinformation on social media regarding Pakistan’s slow procurement of vaccines.
“To say that the government is waiting to receive vaccines as gifts is not correct,” he said.
Islamabad: Pakistan’s hospitals are under acute burden of COVID-19 cases given the spike in numbers during the third wave that is described as being faster and deadlier than the first two in the country.
Asad Umar, Head of the National Command & Operation Centre (NCOC) and Minister for Planning, Development & Special Initiative, in a tweet cautioned that the coronavirus situation was worsening with more patients arriving in critical care units as compared to the peak time in June 2020.
“There are more than 4,500 critical COVID-19 patients in the country now, 30 per cent higher than the number in June,” said the NCOC head.
Islamabad: Pakistan’s death toll due to COVID-19 crossed the 16,000-mark on Saturday as the country witnessed 112 mortalities in a period of twenty-four hours.
The total fatalities in the country have reached 16,094 making Saturday the fifth straight day with more-than-100 deaths.
Earlier, in the current week, 118 deaths were reported on Tuesday, 124 on Wednesday and 110 each on Thursday and Friday.
According to the official portal of the Ministry of the National Health Services, 4,976 new cases were reported in the country after 65,279 tests during the last one day taking the total number of cases to 750,158.
There are 79,108 active cases in the country while the positivity rate remained 7.62 per cent in the country, the official data further reveals.
