State sets up small business COVID navigator program

SPRINGFIELD Illinois is directing $3.4 million toward expanding community navigator outreach programs and technical assistance to help businesses take advantage of financial assistance available through the renewed Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) and other federal programs set to launch in the coming weeks.
The plans build on the community navigator outreach model piloted during the Business Interruption Grants (BIG) that awarded $275 million to nearly 9,000 small businesses across the state.

SPRINGFIELD – Governor J.B. Pritzker announced on Friday, new investments by the State of Illinois to help more small businesses access federal COVID-19 emergency programs. The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) will direct a $3.4 million investment to expand community navigator outreach programs and technical assistance services provided through the State’s Small Business Development Centers (SBDCs). These investments are designed to help more businesses take advantage of billions of dollars of financial assistance recently made available through the renewed Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), and with other federal programs set to launch in the coming weeks.

Illinois officials on Friday, Jan. 8, announced more than $275 million in nearly 9,000 emergency assistance grants have been made to small businesses in over 600 cities and towns statewide through the Business Interruption Grants, BIG, program.
The funding was announced by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, DCEO, and Gov. JB Pritzker.
Small businesses in Union County are among those receiving emergency assistance grant funds.
Those receiving grants in Union County included Sinisi’s on Main in Anna, the Shawnee Hills Arts Council in Anna, The Kitchen on Lafayette in Anna, Abbey Ridge LLC (Downtown Abbey) in Cobden, Lincoln Heritage Winery (which is located between Anna and Cobden) and Feather Vines LLC (Feather Hills Vineyard & Winery) in Makanda/Union County.
