KATHMANDU, Aug 15: The Mint Division of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has announced on Tuesday that the gold that was recovered from a taxi outside the Tribhuvan International Airport by the Department of Revenue Investigation now weighs 60.716 kg after being melted.

KATHMANDU, Aug 14: The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police has written a letter to the Mint Division of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) asking the latter to weigh the gold seized from outside the Tribhuvan International Airport a few weeks ago.

Nearly a month after the gold was seized, the central bank initiates the melting process to determine the actual quantity of gold.

KATHMANDU, Aug 8: After the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police started the investigation, the accused in the 100 kg gold smuggling case were remanded in custody on Monday. While they were in the custody of the Department of Revenue Investigation (DRI), their remand was extended by the Patan High Court, the spokesperson of Nepal Police, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Kuber Kadayat said that remand has been extended for the first time by the Kathmandu District Court.

KATHMANDU, Aug 7: The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police has started an investigation into the 100 kg gold smuggling case after the Department of Revenue Investigation (DRI) gave it the responsibility to do so. According to CIB sources, Superintendent of Police (SP) Sanjay Singh Thapa has been appointed as the chief investigation officer for the investigation into the gold smuggling case.

The government is set to direct the Central Bureau of Investigation of Nepal Police to investigate the 100-kg gold smuggling racket from the angle of organised crime due to the alleged involvement of racketeers in multiple layers.

The huge quantity of gold that had passed undetected through the customs at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu before being confiscated on July 18 has yet to be weighed.

Mint Division says DRI has yet to make a written request.

KATHMANDU, July 23: The gold importer company 'Ready Traders Pvt Ltd, which was registered only three months ago, was found to be registered in the name of 21-year-old Dilip Bhujel, according to the Department of Revenue Investigation (DRI).
