Toronto-based Postmedia has announced it will purchase all of the daily and weekly newspapers owned by New Brunswick's Irving family. Postmedia says in a news release it has reached an agreement to buy all outstanding shares of Brunswick News Inc.
The door could open up for greater media competition in New Brunswick as Toronto-based Postmedia gears up to purchase all of the daily and weekly newspapers owned by the Irving family for more than $16 million in cash and shares.
Brunswick News is going to stop printing a Monday edition of its three English-language daily newspapers, according to a memo sent to people who deliver print editions of the Telegraph Journal, the Daily Gleaner and the Times & Transcript.
HALIFAX Many in the Miramichi would like to forget Allan Legere, but his reign of terror still haunts and torments this usually quiet and serene community to this day. Everyone was fearful frightened of their lives but it was a bad time, a Miramichi resident told CTV Atlantic. Legere was convicted in the 1986 murder of shopkeeper John Glendenning and sentenced to life in prison, but he would later escape custody and went on a killing rampage that took the lives of four people. He killed Annie Flam an elderly store owner Donna and Linda Daughney,and Father James Smith, a Roman Catholic priest.
